Do you know what you are doing with your social media accounts?
Just as with everything else social media is constantly growing and changing in the way we use it and the way we need to use it. Algorithm changes, hashtags, new features and general glitches in the systems every day.
Facebook continues to grow with over 2 billion active monthly users. It ranks 3rd globally with only Google and YouTube being ranked higher.

Top ranking websites globally
Instagram has now hit 1 billion active monthly users and takes a second place to Facebook for people marketing their business. Daily more than 100million photos and videos are uploaded with 2 billion likes to occur every day. Did you know that Thursday is the best day to post on Instagram? And videos get 21% more interaction compared to images.
Twitter has 326 million monthly active users and sends out 500 million tweets each day.
LinkedIn now has 590 million users and 260 million are active on a monthly basis. According to Hubspot, it performs 277% better than Facebook and Twitter when it comes to generating visitor to lead conversions. Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn contributed to 90% of social traffic to B2B blogs and websites with LinkedIn responsible for half the numbers.
One thing that remains is that consumers want to see their brands “Get Real”.
Consumers are smart and if they feel like you are trying in any way to trick them they will move away from your brand. Instead, the idea with social media is to form connections with your followers. To form communities that love your brand as much as you do.
What do you want
If you are using social media – what do you want
- Share content with your customers
- Have a voice in your industry
- Build a community
- Increase brand awareness
- Gain better more informed clients
- Drive customers to your brick-and-mortar store
- Have loyal followers
Who are your clients
- How old are they
- Where do they live
- What social media do they use
- With kids or without
- Homeowners or renters
- Professionals or trades
- Local, national or international
Think about the metrics of your social media activity. It is not just as simple as getting likes and comments as many people don’t bother to do either. How are you going to measure your social media effectiveness?
Have you thought about your direct competitors and what they are doing on social media? Make sure you find your own voice and don’t spend too much time following your competitors.
Engaging content
I’m sure you realise that your content needs to spark joy! Aim to ensure you have:
- Great images
- Smart captions
- Relevant content not just clickbait content that has nothing to do with your brand
- Video – Live, long-form or short looping videos, the choice is yours.
- User-generated content
Timing
Make sure you post when your followers are most likely to be able to see and interact with your content. Ideally, it should be at a time that you are able to respond to any interactions.
Constant improvement
The quest to do better should always be on your mind. Review what is working well and see how you can replicate it again in the future.
