Small business marketing checklist

Are you unsure about what marketing strategies you should be using to drive results?

Do you know you need to market your business but you are not just sure where to start or are your current efforts just not working?

Here are some areas that you need to ensure are on your own small business marketing checklist

Your website – Number 1 on your small business marketing checklist

I know I mention it all the time but it still just is not sinking in for so many small business owners.

Your website is the place for your ideal clients to learn about your business, the products and services you sell and so much more. It is the home base for your business and if you are an eCommerce business it is your digital shopfront.

Pages

Your website pages are hot property, particularly your home page. All your website pages should work together and encourage your visitors to spend time on your website.

Make sure you:

  • Show brand consistency
  • Ensure your pages are not overloaded with content, they need white space
  • Try to not overwhelm your visitors with too many elements
  • Remember to include images, videos, infographics and more throughout – Make sure you don’t have your videos set to autoplay it is incredibly annoying for visitors.
  • Check that your pages load well when the internet is good
  • Have a mobile responsive website – how well does your website work on a mobile device? More than 50% of all internet traffic is from mobile devices. Google also has a mobile fist indexing so you won’t rank well in the search results without a mobile responsive website.
  • Create content with answers that your ideal clients are looking for
  • Think about what you would be looking for if you were your own ideal client
  • Link internally to other areas of your website within your content to direct people to spend more time on your website

SEO – Search Engine Optimisation

SEO remains one of the most effective ways to help you to rank better in the search results. When you rank better in the search results you get more traffic to your website. This increase in traffic will lead to more awareness, increased enquiries and sales.

Why not outsource your SEO today with our affordable small business SEO options and get found by your ideal clients.

Social Media Marketing

Billions of people are using social media every day and often several times each day. Because of these figures, social media marketing is one of the best marketing strategies that you can employ for your small business.

Social Media provides you:

  • Brand awareness
  • Increased clicks to your website
  • Better visibility online
  • New customers

Platforms that you may love or hate include:

  • Facebook
  • Instagram
  • Twitter
  • Linkedin
  • Pinterest
  • YouTube and more

Regardless of the social platforms you use, you need to be consistent. A minimum of 5 times each week for platforms like Facebook, Instagram and Linkedin. Even more often on platforms like Pinterest and Twitter. Only posting occasionally sees your post disappear in the masses of other posts. Remember that none of the platforms will share your posts in chronological order so there are no guarantees that all your posts will be seen by your followers.

Make sure you have your logo as your profile picture and a high-quality cover picture if applicable to your social accounts. Ensure that you fill out the about section and descriptions for your business and ensure your contact information is all correct.

Apart from being search engines in their own right, all social media is also indexed in the Google Search results which then works to increase the online optimisation of your business. It helps your overall SEO efforts across the internet.

Paid Advertising

While a lot of people are scared of paid advertising it should be an essential part of your marketing checklist. Paid advertising can take your business to another level as it is highly targeted and often very cost-effective.

It can be done via Google Ads so you appear in the search results and it can be done across all social media channels.

Email

One of the best ways to get in touch with your database email is a direct line to their eyes. Chances are your subscribers are already interested in what you have on offer. Sending emails on a regular basis means you get to remain top of mind with them.

Email remains a very low-cost solution for staying in touch and it is often something that is easy to automate or to outsource very affordably.
