Is a high bounce rate bad
According to google – It depends!
If the success of your site depends on users viewing more than one page, then, yes, a high bounce rate can be bad. For example, if your home page is the gateway to the rest of your site (e.g., news articles, product pages, your checkout process) and a high percentage of users are viewing only your home page, then you don’t want a high bounce rate.
On the other hand, if you have a single-page site, or offer other types of content for which single-page sessions are expected, then a high bounce rate is perfectly normal.
Bounce rate – The percentage of visitors to a particular website who navigate away from the site after viewing only one page.
Where do you find your bounce rate?
Google Analytics is a free tool Google designed to help you analyse your website. The bounce rate is just one of the things that Google will measure for you and provide data in the Analytics platform.
Is a high bounce rate bad for you?
One thing to remember is that the bounce rate is not directly correlated with how well you will rank within Google. How well you rank comes down to SEO (search engine optimisation).
Your goal as a business owner with a website should always be to make your website visitors happier and give them what they are searching for.
How do you make your website visitors happier?
Improve your websites speed – There are a variety of ways that this can be done and this does help with your SEO.
Secure and mobile responsive – It is hard to believe that there are still websites without these two essential aspects. If your website falls into this category you must change it immediately.
Answer questions – Is your website answering the questions of your ideal clients? Or are you attracting the wrong people to your website? Is it time to review your website?
Internal linking – Do you help your visitors to navigate through your website? When they land on a page of your website will there be options for them to visit other pages of related content?
Call to action – What do you want your ideal clients to do when they arrive on your website?
Website search – Can people search your website for what they are looking for? Is this relevant to your business? Wouldn’t it be better for people to search your website and not Google?
Great media – Have you included great images, video and more to help your visitors see what they are looking for?
So is a high bounce rate bad?
It depends… And there are plenty of things that you can work on to improve it if you need to.
