7 Common Marketing Mistakes
One of the most common questions I am asked is how you can effectively market your business and get the results you need. While this is different for every business, in this blog I will show you the mistakes you can avoid today.
You forgot about mobile responsiveness
Quite a few years ago now Google advised that a mobile responsive website was essential and it is going to affect the ranking of your website. All these years later, there still are websites who have not bothered to update their platform. This is a major issue in your ability to rank well in the search results.
More than 50% of searches are done on a mobile device and depending on your industry, this percentage can be much higher. Google Mobile-friendly test.
You think SEO is a waste of time
The simple fact here is SEO is essential if you are going to be found online. Investing in SEO for your organic reach is how you will gain traffic. SEO increases your chances of being seen and in turn, being clicked on by your ideal clients. The outcome is simple, increased visibility leads to more enquiries, leads to more conversions and gives you an increase in your sales and revenue.
Social Media is still not your priority
When you think about the fact that more than 80% of people have at least one social media account – chances are your ideal clients are there too.
For example, It is a common misconception of B2B businesses to think that they don’t need social media. That social media will not be an effective marketing strategy. The simple fact is that these businesses are all made up of people who use social media every day. Using social media to share blogs and other interesting content means that these people will learn more about your business.
Email marketing is a time waster
The interesting thing about email marketing is that while it was one of the first online marketing strategies, it remains one of the most effective. Creating a regular strategy of email marketing should start to see results for your business. Aim to send something monthly to your database and make sure to include a call to action. If you are an e-commerce or retail store, a weekly email marketing campaign should be part of your strategy.
You don’t make video content
Video has many uses once created. You can use it on your website, social media, email newsletters and more. It doesn’t have to be difficult or expensive but it does still need to be reasonable quality. You also need to have a strategy, don’t just create a video for the sake of it, perhaps start with video testimonials from your clients. If you are going to do your own videos, practice first and test them with some trusted people, not everyone is great in front of the camera from day one – it takes practice.
Having a blog is not on your radar
Original content, published regularly is a great way to engage your followers and build your authority online. While this is vital for a B2B small business it is also essential for a B2C business to also consider. A blog remains ones of the best ways to get more traffic to your website regardless of your type of business.
Your website is an old slow beast
Perhaps you created your website yourself or perhaps it was created several years ago. Maybe you went with a free hosting service or perhaps you have no clue what I am talking about.
Either way, internet users are impatient and hate to have to wait for a page to load. A typical searcher will return to the search results if it takes too long for a website to load. You can test this on Google’s Page Speed Insights.
There are quite a few factors that can increase your loading time – image sizes, hosting, videos, content, design and more.
